Oregon State nurses have a one time requirement for 7 hours of pain management continuing education. Anyone renewing their nursing license in the 2 years after 1/1/06 has 2 years from the date of their renewal to obtain the required 7 hours of CE. One hour of this requirement must be from the Pain Management Commission’s course, which can be accessed at: www.oregon.gov/DHS/pain/training.shtml. The remaining 6 hours can be general or specialty topics related to pain management.
Most Oregon nursing students receive pain management education in school, which satisfies the requirement. Check with your nursing program director for verification.
